Despite the decline of established opinion leaders in general, the sharp decline of newspapers especially, and the particular decline of the New York Times, the Times remains the most prestigious institution of journalism in the US. Here we have not some guest op-ed, not even the thoughts of one of their internal opinion writers, but a statement from the Editorial Board itself.
In it the Board sidles toward accusing the presidential nominee of one of the two major political parties of treason. Then they take a step that in my recollection is unprecedented: they call on the leaders of that party to repudiate the candidate the party just nominated.
Curiouser and curiouser!
